What is the best camera app for weddings?

Short answer

For guests, the built-in camera. At a reception the native camera wins on the things that decide a photo in that room: night mode, HDR stacking, and a shutter the guest can find without looking. Third-party camera apps are worth it only for someone shooting deliberately, where manual control and raw capture pay off, and that is your photographer rather than your guests. Gathmo does not include a camera for exactly this reason. Guests shoot with what they know, then upload from the camera roll through a QR code, with no install and no account. The app you actually need at a wedding is the one that collects the photos, not the one that takes them.

What decides a photo at a reception

Light, or the lack of it. Receptions run on candles, uplighting, and a dance floor lit by moving colour. The native camera handles this with multi-frame night processing that third-party apps mostly cannot access.

Speed. The moment is 2 seconds long. Any app that takes longer to open than the lock-screen camera shortcut has already cost you the shot.

Motion. Dancing needs a short exposure and clean high-ISO processing, which is again a system-camera strength rather than a manual-control one.

When a third-party camera does earn its place

A photographer or a serious hobbyist shooting raw for later editing gains real headroom from manual apps such as Halide or Lightroom Mobile, because they intend to process the files properly afterwards.

Someone shooting a specific planned setup, where there is time to set exposure deliberately, also benefits. Neither describes a guest during the first dance.

For everyone else the correct workflow is native camera, then upload. Gathmo handles the second half: scan, pick, send, about 3 taps.

Common follow-ups

Does Gathmo have its own camera?

No. Guests upload from their camera roll, which produces better photos than an in-app shutter at a reception.

Can guests upload raw or HEIC files?

HEIC uploads from iPhones are handled normally. Very large raw files are better sent by the photographer through a delivery gallery.

What about video?

Short video uploads through the same QR code, capped at 30 seconds on free and up to 15 minutes on Grand.
