Five rules that decide whether a hashtag actually gets used

Say it out loud first. If it needs spelling at the bar, guests will type it wrong.
Search it before you commit. A tag someone else already uses mixes your day into theirs.
Keep it under about 20 characters. Long tags get abbreviated, and then they are two tags.
Avoid letter pile-ups. "SmithSSummer" reads as one S to half your guests.
Put it where people already look — the table cards, the bar sign, the order of service.

What makes a good wedding hashtag?

Short enough to type from memory, unique enough that searching it returns only your wedding, and readable at a glance — capitalising each word (#HappilyEverRivera) helps people parse it without changing what it matches.

Do I need a wedding hashtag at all?

No. It is a nice way to find what guests posted publicly, but it is not how you collect photos reliably. If your goal is to end up with the actual files, a scan-to-upload album does that job and a hashtag does not.

How do I check whether a hashtag is already taken?

Search it on each platform your guests use before you commit. Hashtags are not reserved or owned, so a common one will mix your wedding in with strangers’ posts — and you cannot clean that up afterwards.

Where should the hashtag appear?

Wherever guests are already looking: the welcome sign, table cards, the order of service, and your wedding website. If you also use a QR code for photo uploads, putting both on the same sign saves you a second print run.

Can we use a hashtag and a QR code together?

Yes, and they do different jobs. The hashtag finds what guests chose to post in public; the QR code collects the files themselves, including everything nobody posts. Printing both on one sign costs nothing extra.

What happens if guests forget the hashtag?
