One question per card beats a page of them

Guests answer more when they are asked one thing, not twelve. Put a single question on each table card and let people move between tables to answer another.

The best answers are rarely the written ones

A guestbook line is three sentences at most, written standing up, with people waiting behind. Ask the same question out loud and you get the pause, the laugh, and the voice — the part a book cannot hold. How many questions should a guestbook have?

Fewer than feels right. Six to eight across the whole event is plenty — one per table card works better than a list, because guests answer what is in front of them rather than choosing.

Do guests actually answer prompted questions?

They answer far more than they fill a blank page, because the hard part is not writing, it is deciding what to write. Whether a specific question lands still depends on your guests, so pick ones that sound like the people in the room.

Can we use these for a birthday or anniversary?

Most of the memory, advice, and playful ones work unchanged — swap "marriage" for the occasion. The wishes set is written around a couple, so it needs rewording for a single guest of honour.

Should we print the questions or ask them live?

Both work, and they collect different things. Printed cards catch the guests who prefer to write; a spoken or recorded question catches the ones who would never pick up a pen.
